    Dogpound Server :: Log Settings

    The Watchdog system keeps logs for each submitted job type. These logs are stored in a central location and can be used through the Watchdog client.

    Log Files Location:

    This edit field defines the location where the log files will be stored. The most important aspect of this is that the Log Files Location needs to be recognized as the same path on all machines in the system including machines running Watchdog and Renderdog, as well as the Dogpound server. What this mean is that if the Dogpound server sees the Log Files Location as "F:\ENG\Logs", then all machines in the system must recognize "F:\ENG\Logs" as the same network location. As the RenderDogs will be the clients writing the logs there is no benefit to having the log directory on the same machine as the Dogpound server. A possible location for the log directory is on the file server that the render nodes will be retrieving data from.

    Max # of Logs:

    This field defines the total number of logs to be kept. Once the total number of logs exceeds this value the oldest logs will be deleted from the Log Files Location. This value will override the "log duration in days" if the number of logs has reached this value before the log file expires.

    Log Duration in Days:

    This value is effectively an expiration date for the log files. Once log files are older than the value entered here, all expired logs will be deleted. This value will override the "max # of logs" if the expiration date is met and the total number of logs has not been reached.
