Dogpound Server :: Software Versions and Locations

To allow for the most flexibility in a multi-version software environment, the Watchdog system supports an unlimited number of user defined versions for each software package allowing the administrator to customize which versions (i.e. Maya4.0, Maya 4.5, and Maya 5.0) are available to the user. These versions can be chosen on a per job basis at submission time in the Watchdog client.

    Overview:

The Software Versions and Locations dialog defines all of the current available software executables for the Watchdog System. And unlimited number of versions may be defined for each software type. Maya:Mental Ray, Maya:Hardware, and Maya:Vector are unique cases where the defined Maya versions will apply.

    Version Settings:

To add a new version enter the full path to the executable that needs to be launched to execute a render. Below is a list of standard executables for each software packages:

    • Maya: Render.exe
    • Lightwave: LWSN.exe
    • Rib: (this can be any rib compliant renderer such as prman.exe)
    • Combustion:
    • 3dsMax: 3dsmaxcmd.exe

NOTE: Lightwave is a special case where a config file can also be associated with a specific version.

Once the path is entered type in a unique name for this version. Lastly enter the "Launch Limit" for this version. This will limit the number of launches this particular version will be allowed to execute in the system. For unlimited launches enter 9999 (default). In instances where a software application may be shared for different job types (i.e. Maya:Mental Ray), create a Mental Ray version and limit the version to the number of licenses available for the mental ray renderer.

Click the "Add Version" button and the new version will appear in the version table above.

    Reordering and Deleting Versions:

Versions can be sorted by dragging and dropping the version to it's new location. This will determine what order the versions appear in the drop down menu in the Watchdog client's submit dialog.

To delete a version simply select the version and press the "delete" key.
